The Iran-affiliated rebel group in Yemen, called “Houthi” today claimed responsibility for a drone attack on two of Saudi Arabia’s oil refineries.

The attacks, which were carried out sometime on Saturday, 13th of September, 2019, has set ablaze two major oil refineries in Saudi Arabia – cutting the kingdom’s oil production down by 50%, and cutting the global oil production down by 5%.

The Well Laid Plans of Men and Mice…

The attacks on the oil refineries by the Houthi Rebel Group in Yemen come just as Saudi oil giant “Aramco” was preparing for its largest Initial Public Offering of stock in the world.

We’re Just Getting Warmed Up

The Iran-affiliated rebel group, known as “Houthi” said that they used ten drones to carry out the attacks, and that they are just getting warmed up. The rebel group says that more attacks on Saudi Arabia are on the way.

Why the Attacks?

“These attacks are our right, and we warn the Saudis that our targets will keep expanding,” spokesman Yahya Saree said in a statement read out on the rebels’ Al Masirah TV. “We have the right to strike back in retaliation to the air strikes and the targeting of our civilians for the last five years.”

A Vicious, Never-Ending Cycle of Evil

The Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia is in retaliation for Saudi involvement in a civil war in Yemen. In 2015, the Saudi-led coalition had fought against the Houthi rebels in support of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi killing tens of thousands of people and leading to one of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.

This Will Lead to Repercussions…More Killings and Destruction

Colonel Turki al-Malki  of Saudi Arabia said that investigations are ongoing to determine the parties responsible for the attacks and that “necessary measures” will be taken to safeguard national assets.
