Last updated: November 22, 2020 at 23:20 pmA man, yet to be identified, was found beheaded on Sunday afternoon in Roraima – Brazil’s northernmost state which borders with Guyana and Venezuela. His head was found inside a lagoon on RR-205, in the Cidade Satélite neighborhood, west of Boa Vista.
The victim was found by the Military Police who asked the firemen to backup the search for the head after suspecting it was inside the lagoon.
The body had at least one heart tattoo on the shoulder, a rosary on one leg and the phrase “louco por tir corithians (sic).”
The Legal Medical Institute (IML) was called in to remove the body. The expertise of the General Homicide Police (DGH) was also sent to the site.
Although the police have not yet determined this, the crime is likely to be gang related. It is not unusual to find mutilated or decapitated bodies in Brazil that were the result of gang related killings. Rival gangs often kill members of the opposing gangs in Brazil and decapitation is a common signature of gang related killings.
Sometime in the year 2019, a decapitated body of a Brazilian man was discovered on the border with Guyana and Brazil, and in 2017, a young girl, 17 years of age, was brutally stabbed 49 times in Bonfim, Roraima by another girl as part of her initiation into the gang life.
In 2019 also, gang fights among prison inmates belonging to rival gangs saw the gruesome ripping off of heads of inmates in a prison in Manaus, Amazonas Brazil. Gang fights in prison resulting in mass decapitation has happened several times in Brazil.
