Amid a massive, nationwide vaccination campaign, the country that was once dubbed the epicenter of the Covid-19 virus in South America is showing sure signs of recovery. Yesterday, 12th of July, Brazil only recorded 17,031 total new Covid cases, and the day before, only 20,937. This is contrasted with the staggering average of 70,000 new cases per day which was recorded between January and June 2021.

Covid-19 related deaths in the country have also marked a sharp decline in recent weeks.

As you can see from the graph above, Covid 19 deaths in Brazil have marked a steep downward gradient over the past few weeks.

Yesterday, Brazil recorded 745 Covid-19 related deaths and on the 11th of July, 595. This contrasts favorably with the monthly seven-day averages of 1500 to 2000 deaths per day which occurred between March and June 2021.

So far, almost 90 million Brazilians have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, and over 30 million have been fully vaccinated. The country has a population of about 211,000,000.

In the face of rampant conspiracy theories, these recent data lend a favorable argument for the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine although possible side effects are still hotly debated and many people are still skeptical about the safety of Covid vaccines.

At the same time, we must remember that facemasks have become more common, effectively designed, and comfortable in recent months. Further, people have become more knowledgably of immune boosting foods and herbal remedies.

Whether it is the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine, the use of facemasks, herd immunity, alternative medicine, better personal care, or a combination of all of these factors, one thing is clear: Covid-19 seems to be on the decline in Brazil. And with similar results in the USA, UK, and several other countries, it seems as though humans are finally on the verge of beating the Covid-19 virus.
