The total number of soldiers who have managed to escape the Maduro Regime has risen to over 300, according to a report from the Columbian Immigration Officials released on Monday, 25th of February, 2019.

“You know that in your own home you don’t even have a kilo of rice,” said a female soldier, who requested anonymity, fearing for the safety of the children she left back home. “And I’m supposed to stay here fighting, why?”

Nearly all the defectors say they would join in a foreign military intervention to oust Maduro.

While Washington and the opposition leader Juan Guiado are calling on armed forces to surrender, the defecting soldiers have reported that it is difficult to do so because of fear of imprisonment and torture.
