Acting on intelligence that Colombia is plotting with the United States to overthrow his government, Nicolas Maduro yesterday mobilized 150,000 troops which arrived at the border with Colombia on the 10th of September, 2019 – as had been scheduled a week before.

While the Venezuelan troops carry out anti-invasion drills at the border, Colombia has advised its residents to remain calm. At the same time, the Colombian military has been put on “special alert” in response to what the military commander described as an “open threat” to Colombia and the region.

Tanks and missile carriers have also been dispatched to the western Tachira State of Venezuela. Remigio Ceballos, strategic commander of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, said that Venezuela’s army was ready to respond to attacks from Colombia, the United States or any other threat.

Meanwhile, Washington has assured Colombia that they have the full support of the world’s most powerful military in the event that the tensions escalate into actual fighting.

US Ambassador to the Organization of American States, Carlos Trujillo, has said that Colombia has a right to react to any aggression and that the United States would “fully support” Colombia in a war against Venezuela.
