Last updated: April 29, 2020 at 20:29 pmIt is mind boggling to think that earth is the only planet with life in the entire universe. After all, the universe is infinite. It stretches infinitely in all directions with no end in sight. The human mind cannot comprehend infinity anymore than it can comprehend eternity.
But we can try to put it into perspective by using our imagination. Earth is the third planet away from the sun in our solar system. Our solar system is part of the Milky Way Galaxy which has about 100 billion other solar systems. And there are billions upon billions of galaxies in the universe.
So the universe has no end. Let’s put it this way. If you were to travel for a billion years at the speed of light, you would not even start to explore the universe. Sounds confusing? It probably is because the human mind is finite while space and time are infinite.
We’ll talk more about this later. For now, let’s discuss the possibility of other life forms existing in the universe. Doubtless, there are an endless supply of planets in the universe. But for a planet to be habitable, certain conditions are required. Among these are water, oxygen and the right temperature.
If there are billions and billions of solar systems in the universe, it is extremely likely that many of these would have the conditions required for life – and not just earth. And if earth were indeed the only planet with the conditions necessary for life – then that would indeed be a miracle.
So far, aside from a few stories of flying saucers and bizzare stories of kidnappings by extra-terrestrials, there are no concrete evidence that aliens exist or walk among us. People have reported seeing UFOs which might be alien spaceships. But if these are really aliens, why don’t they come down and say, “hey, we’re from xyz planet in xyz Solar System..greetings.” That has never happened.
If we are the only life form in the universe, which so far it appears to be, then we can conclude that, aside from the right life conditions, it takes a divine touch to produce life – or, as the bible puts it, “the breath of life.”
