Deadly Avalanche Kills at Least 80 People in Northern Pakistan

A deadly avalanche coupled with landslide, triggered by heavy rains, has left at least 80 persons dead in Northern Pakistan while many more are still missing. The disaster struck on Tuesday, 14th of January, 2020. The exact hour of the occurrence is not clear at this time, however, we will update this article when that information becomes available.

Impacted areas include Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Malakand and Hazara divisions. Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, today visited Muzaffarabad to express solidarity with the victims of land sliding and avalanche in affected area Neelum Valley.

The Pakistan Army has been engaged in rescue operations and some reports suggest that the death toll has climbed above 90 persons. Yesterday it was reported that three school children were killed in Neelum Valley, Pakistan. The government of Pakistan has declared Kashmir in a state of national emergency.
