As tensions flare between the United States, Venezuela and neighboring countries, Brazil’s Defense Minister says they won’t allow US troops into the state of Roraima to assist with humanitarian aid missions on the Venezuela border.

Earlier this year, Jair Bolsonaro had signalled a willingness to let the United States set up a military base in Brazil, but such an operation must first be approved by the Ministry of Defense in Brazil, among others.

For now, the Defense Ministry says they won’t allow US troops into the state of Roraima for fear that it would provoke a war between Brazil and Venezuela.
