It is no wonder then, that the general public is always curious about the most intricate details of Khan’s personal life. On this note, Khan revealed during an interview that he’s a practicing Muslim, but his wife is a practicing Hindu, and they were married according to Hindu rites. He says he respects his wife’s religious background as much as she respects his. Talk about perfect harmony!
Needless to say, Shah Rukh Khan’s millions of Muslim fans around the world take great pride in this point of identity – this unifying thread that binds them together. He’s seen as a role model not only for male figures around the world, but he’s also somewhat an archetype of a good Muslim.
But in a dramatic twist, Khan made a Facebook post that drew worldwide criticism, and gravely disappointed his Muslim fans with the Facebook Post which involves a Hindu Deity.
Khan Posted on September, 19th 2021:
May Lord Ganesha’s blessings remain with all of us until we see him again next year… Ganpati Bappa Morya!!!
According Islamic teachings, uttering such a statement is blasphemous to the fullest extent, and indicative of someone who has “strayed from the path.” The post drew a slew of negative comments, backlashes, and criticisms with thousands of Muslims appealing to Khan to ask forgiveness of Allah.
One person commented:
You are posting this shirk to satisfy them, and forget Allah the only god, this donia is vanish and you will meet Allah not their god, and Allah will ask you is there other gods with me to be worshipped? What will be your answer?
Facebook warned users who were reading the comments not to post “hate speech” under the post and said that it had deleted a great number of such.
Another Muslim commented:
May Allah shower his blessings on you and show the right path we have only one God that is Allahu rabbi you know pls don’t ignore the fact pls I respect you.
At the same time, Christian evangelists took the opportunity to tell Khan about the love of Jesus while Hindus took it in stride.
