President Nicholas Maduro has time and time again boasted that Russia would back Venezuela in a military conflict against the United States, and President Putin has time and time again confirmed those claims.

But with a Washington-sponsored military invasion right on the horizon, Russia’s strengthless responses show that it is backing down on its promises.

“As for the US plans to provide weapons to militants to destabilize the situation in Venezuela – frankly speaking, for invading this sovereign country – they certainly cause us concern,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Such indecisive words offer little confort to the Maduro Regime in Venezuela. And while the rest of the world is cautioning the United States against a military invasion, the records show that the United States has a history of acting in defiance of international norms.

“I must admit that given the current US administration’s ways, everything is possible,” Lavrov said.
