Last updated: December 19, 2019 at 2:42 amSo, the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has been impeached today, 18th of December, 2019. I guess by now you’ve heard all the talk. The major news stations such as CNN, BBC and NBS are all ablaze with the phenomenal report that “Donald Trump has been impeached.”
Before we go any further, let’s take a quick look at how impeachment works. First of all, the President remains in office after being impeached until the trial beings. The President still remains in office during the trial. He is only removed from office “if” convicted. And that’s the million dollar question right now: will Donald Trump’s opponent manage to convict him?
Let’s Examine.
Of the 45 presidents in the history of the United States, three have been impeached and 0 has been convicted so far.
Therefore, if we learn from the past, we can say that the United States has a 0% success rate when it comes to convicting impeached presidents. This suggests that the likelihood of Donald Trump being convicted and removed from office is negligible. And if it does happen, it will indeed be a truly historical event for the United States.
In order for his impeachment to lead to a conviction, a two-thirds majority is required, and that means that 20 Republicans will have to vote in favor of convicting Donald Trump! But chances are, not one Republican will join the bandwagon going against Donald Trump. Or should I say, the bandwagon rolling merrily over the cliff?
The only two US Presidents to be impeached before Donald Trump were Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. They were both acquitted.
Donald Trump, like most republicans, has been noted for his Christian ideals. He encouraged the idea of teaching the bible – which he calls his “favorite book” – in schools. Trump’s supporters will definitely be saying some prayers and quoting some bible verses over this situation. How about this one:
“The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
So, what do you think? Will Donald Trump’s opponents have their way or flee in seven ways? Tell us in the comments section below.
