Last updated: August 24, 2020 at 14:10 pmA video filmed by a bystander and posted on social media shows the police shooting of a 27 years old African American man in the state of Wisconsin, USA. The man, identified as Jacob Blake, is said to be in the hospital in stable condition. The incident took place on the 23rd of August, 2020.
At the start of the video, the man can be seen walking from the back right of the vehicle and coming around to the driver side door. He was tailed by three police officers with guns in hands. The police appeared to be pursuing the man and telling him to stop, however, he opened the driver side door and was apparently attempting to enter the vehicle or reaching for something. At that point, the police behind him unloaded about 7 rounds into his back. When that happened, a woman standing next the car started jumping and screaming and the video was cut.
The incidents leading up to the shooting are not depicted in the video, however, some sources say that the man had stopped and exited his car to break up a roadside fight between two women and that his children were in the car.
The man appeared to be resisting arrest and the police have a right to protect themselves, but many people are saying that there was no need to shoot. Many people also fear that this could lead to another “black lives matter” mass protest which erupted subsequent to the murder of George Floyd. During the protests for George Floyd, many innocent people were killed, businesses burnt and looted and COVID-19 spread to countless people.
The officers officers involved in the shooting were sent on administrative leave pending investigations into the matter.
Update: Protests have already broke out in the state of Wisconsin, USA, and at least one vehicle has been set on fire.
