A few months back, I was a looking at a YouTube Video that depicted how John Wilke Booth assasinated Abraham Lincoln. In the comments, everyone was heaping praises at Lincoln and poking ridicule at Booth. They were showering love on Abraham and hate on John Wilke Booth.
But while I’m a vehement opponent to slavery, I wouldn’t blame John Wilke Booth for assassinating Lincoln. I mean, under the circumstances, who wouldn’t have wanted to assassinate President Lincoln? Personally, I think Abraham Lincoln is one of the stupidest Presidents in American history.
They say Abraham Lincoln is one of the greatest presidents of America, but what exactly did he do to become so great? My disapproval of President Lincoln has its roots in humanitarism: I am as vehemently opposed to war as I am to slavery.
It is those who have never experienced the anguish of war who cry aloud for more blood. Abraham Lincoln never set a boot (no pun intended) in those battlefields into which he so proudly sent hundreds of thousands of Americans to die. In the Gettysburg address, he prayed God forgive America for the sin of slavery. While I do agree that slavery is a sin, who is going to forgive him for the sin of sacrificing 1 million American lives? Don’t white lives matter?
Think of all the sisters who lost their brothers in that war; the mothers who lost their sons; the brothers that were set against brothers; the friends that were set against friends; the sickness, suffering, pain and death brought on by the civil war. Think about it. Then ask yourself: wasn’t there a better way of going about the act of freeing the slaves?
William Wilberforce abolished slavery from the British Empire long before Lincoln abolished slavery in the United States. But Wilberforce did so through peaceful means: by campaigning and petitioning.
Did Abraham Lincoln really need to create a civil war? And if he did, was there a hidden, underlying motive? The slaves whom he freed seems to think so? The other day, I came across this Facebook post which has long represented the sentiments of most African Americans towards Abraham Lincoln: sentiments that were voiced time and time again by blacks.
Go ahead and read the post, then read the comments from the descendants of the black people whom Mr. Lincoln sacrificed 1 million white Americans to free.
Yet, the descendants of the white people whom he sacrificed in the civil war under some of the most violent circumstances are calling him “the greatest president in American history.”
Is it that the humans are stupid? It is no wonder then that Donald Trump is in the White House.
So do you think that Abraham Lincoln is the greatest President in American history? Why or why not? Tell us in the comments section below.
