A 61 years old man who had, on the 21st of February, returned from Italy to his home in Sao Paulo, was admitted on the 25th at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo with symptoms of coronavirus: fever, dry cough, sore throat and runny nose.
Over the past few weeks, Brazil has investigated dozens of “suspected” cases of the coronavirus, all of which have been discarded. This is the first “confirmed” case.
According to Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, the patient was seen on Monday (24), and the state Epidemiological Surveillance was notified on Tuesday (25). “The patient is in good clinical condition and does not need to be hospitalized, remaining in respiratory isolation that will be maintained for the next 14 days,” says the hospital in a note.
So far, the coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan, China, has killed about 2,708 people – most of the victims in China. Outside of China, Italy has been noted to be the most affected country with 325 confirmed cases and 11 deaths.
