It’s been about 2 months since an Israeli bio-pharmaceutical company first announced that it is working on a vaccine for the coronavirus that would be ready in about three months. That means, if their initial statement was correct, the vaccine should be ready in about 1 month.

As the confirmed number of the highly contagious coronavirus cases continue to spiral upward, the world cries out for a cure. Many people are fearing the worse. Many people are worried that we might be facing an apocalypse!

There is no doubt that the Israelis are some of the world’s most technologically advanced people in the world. And if anyone can come up with a vaccine for the coronavirus, Israel can. Needless to say, when Israel made the announcement, many people believed. The question is: will they do it in time? The world is literally holding its breath.

But Israel is not alone in the race to produce a vaccine or cure for the coronavirus. The whole world is involved. A few days ago, the United States reported that it has already started conducting clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine on humans.

Speaking to BBC on Sunday, 22nd of March, 2020, Dr. Mike Ryan, Director of Director of WHO Health Emergency Programs, said that a vaccine may be as far as one year away, citing the need for rigorous safety standards.

On the other hand, about 2 months after Israel’s bold statement of creating a vaccine within 3 months, they seem to asking for another 3 months.

Our goal is to produce the vaccine during the next 8-10 weeks, and to achieve safety approval in a few weeks. This will be an oral vaccine, making it particularly accessible to the general public. We are currently in intensive discussions with potential partners that can help accelerate the trial phase and expedite the final product’s development and regulatory activities. Given the urgent global need for a human coronavirus vaccine, we are doing everything we can to accelerate development,” said David Zigdon, CEO of the Institute for Scientific Research in the Galilee (MIGAL).
