Last updated: March 29, 2020 at 15:12 pmBrazil‘s Health Ministry seems to be losing the fight against the deadly coronavirus as infection rates continue to spiral upward across the country. As of last evening (28th March), Brazil’s Health Ministry has confirmed with this publication that there are a total 3904 confirmed coronavirus cases and 114 persons dead from the virus in Brazil.
Our last report of coronavirus in Brazil, published 6 days ago, on the 23rd of March, stated that there were a total of 1900 persons infected across Brazil and 34 persons dead. Today, just 6 days later, the number of confirmed cases has more than doubled, and the number of fatalities has more than tripled. In other words, within the last week, there were nearly 2000 new coronavirus cases in Brazil and about 80 more persons have died from the virus within a 6-days period. And this is what we know of – what was recorded in the Health Ministry’s databases.
The vast majority of coronavirus cases in Brazil is concentrated in Sao Paulo – with a total of 1406 cases, followed by Rio de Janeiro – 558 cases. Roraima, the state that borders Venezuela and Guyana, has only 12 confirmed cases but dozens of suspected cases are presently being investigated.
Brazil has sealed off border crossings with most neighbors, including Guyana, Venezuela, Suriname and French Guiana.
