Although not as bad as such heavily hit countries as the USA, the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil is showing little signs of slowing down. Seven days ago, on the 11th of April, 2020, this publication reported that there were 20,173 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Brazil, with 1084 persons dead from coronavirus related complications.

Today, 18th of April, 2020, Brazil’s Health Ministry has confirmed with this publication that there has been a total of 34,485 confirmed coronavirus cases in Brazil which has left 2184 persons dead. Those are reported and confirmed cases. What’s worrying is the possible number of unreported and undetected cases in the country.

Brazil had confirmed its first case of the deadly virus on the 26th of February, 2020 – an incident that kept spiraling upwards, and despite the Health Ministry’s desperate effort to combat the disease, they seem unable to flatten the curve. Confirmed cases moved from 1 on the 26th of February 2020 to 34,485 less than 60 days later.

The most heavily hit states are:

Sao Paulo – 12,841 confirmed cases, 928 dead.

Rio de Janeiro – 4349 confirmed cases, 341 dead.

Pernambuco – 2006 confirmed cases, 186 dead.

Ceara – 2684 confirmed cases, 149 dead.
