Magnitude 6.7 Earthquake Hits Turkey

A 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake has last Friday evening (24th January) rocked Eastern Turkey – about 25 miles south-southwest of Elazig. Several buildings have collapsed and several more damaged. At least 28 people have been killed and about 30 persons are estimated to be still missing.

About 750 aftershocks have been reported since the main earthquake – some of them measuring 4.0 magnitude on the Richter scale.

The breakdown of casualties across the various regions are as follows:

Adiyaman: 25 injured

– Batman: 6 injured

– Diyarbakir: 34 injured

– Elazig: 16 killed, 637 injured

– Kahramanmaras: 37 injured

– Malatya: 4 killed, 226 injured

– Sanliurfa: 50 injured

Rescue workers are working around the clock and humanitarian and other aid has been pouring in from all over Turkey.
