The Prelude to the War
On July 30th, 2014, the headlines read “Missing Israeli Teens Found Dead in West Bank”.
This was the prelude to the war. The boys were missing since the 12th of June and were aged 16 to 19 years. The Israeli Defense Force launched “Operation Brother’s Keeper” in an effort to rescue the boys. Five Palestinian militants were killed and about 350 Palestinian citizens were arrested during eleven days of military operation.
On June 15, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Hamas for the disappearance of the boys, but the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, denied the allegations.
