Have you ever heard that saying before? Thank God He didn’t give wings to snakes? Or something similar? In 2022, a young girl posted a machine gun and ammunition on Facebook and captioned it: God knows why He didn’t give wings to cobras. Perhaps this young woman wanted to shoot people but lacked the means to do so. She had the snakish intention but not the wings to fly and do it.

People often throw that saying around as a joke. God knows why He didn’t give wings to snakes. I once heard a man used a lighter version of the expression: God knows why He didn’t give certain people certain things.

But think deeply about it. The creatures that have power over the air, that move effortlessly from place to place on wings, are beautiful, harmless creatures. On the other hand, the dangerous and venomous creatures, such as snakes, centipedes, and giant anacondas, are confined mostly to remote forest floors, in swamps, rivers, and trenches. They are constrained to “crawl on their belly and eat dust.”

Indeed! God knows why he didn’t give wings to snakes. And He knows exactly why he gave each creature on earth what He gave them. If you look at the world around us, you will see intelligence in its design. You will see the Hand of God in it: an all-powerful, infinitely intelligent being who knew exactly what He was doing when He created the earth we live on.
