There are several stories in the bible which illustrate the dangers of being fearful. When Job was afflicted during his trials, he lamented that, “the thing that I have feared has come upon me.” This corroborates the idea that when you are afraid of something, you often fall prey to it.
In the book of Proverbs, we are taught that “fear spreads a net for the feet, but whoever trusts in God is safe.” Instead of being afraid of something, therefore, have full confidence that God can and will protect you from it.
We can also look back at the story of Peter walking on the waters with Jesus. He was doing fine until he saw the giant waves and became gripped by fear. Then he started to sink. It was Peter’s faith in His Master, Jesus, which allowed him to thread on the water fearlessly. But when fear gripped him, he began to sink. Do you now see the power of faith and the danger of fear? Jesus tells us that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, we can do miracles. Therefore, replace fear with faith, that is, faith in the positive, and you will do miracles.
The bible tell us that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind. Fear relieves us of our power, love, and soundness of mind. Remember that fear and faith cannot mingle. The two are separate and contrary emotions. Will you allow your fear to overpower your faith or will you let faith overpower your fears?
When David went out to face Goliath, he did not go with a spirit of fear. He went with faith and confidence in God. No matter how great the giant infront of us, we must confront it with faith and trust in God that He will deliver us.
Fear is a debilitating tactic of the enemy. Replace fear with faith in God and watch positive changes and miracles happen in your life.
