You’ve probably seen the meme on the internet making fun of politicians and asking “ever looked and something and wondered how it got there?” Well here’s a real science question for you. How did this car get there?

Take a moment to think…..

Think…

Any ideas?

I posted this photo with the same caption on the internet and got varying responses. Some people suggested that it was the work of a helicopter. Some suggested they were going too fast while yet another suggested that the car might have been parked at the top of the hill and they forgot the brake. And one person exclaimed, “please tell me!”

But no one guessed the correct answer.

The Power of Water!

This happened in Indonesia in January 2020 during the devastating flood that lasted for about one week. During this time, cars were picked and floated through the streets like boats. Take a look….

And that’s the power of water! It’s not as hard as iron, not even as dense a piece of sponge, yet, it has the power to lift a car – a car that six strong men might struggle to lift – and place it comfortably on a cliff. That’s the power of water.

You’ve probably heard of hydraulic pumps and hydraulic jacks…and other hydraulic tools which harness the power of water. As with so many other things in life, water, even though a weak element, under the right circumstances, can do that which stronger elements cannot do.
