The Power of Giving

In my article, “the power of advertising,” I mentioned that giving away a free product, sample or part of a free product can be a powerful method of building a customer base, getting word-of-mouth referrals and gaining brand recognition. But it is also powerful to give away things in many other circumstances.

When Jesus walked on earth, he stressed the importance of giving. In fact, he said that “it is better to give than to receive.” Would you prefer to give a million dollars or receive it? On the surface, it might seem like receiving it is a better idea, but Jesus’ word are sure, and when we scratch below the surface, when find that it really is true. That is because “giving is the power to receive.”

In fact, giving is the power to receive more than you had given. A young entrepreneur went into an impoverished community and gave away millions of dollars’ worth of his nutrition product to the people who needed it. The people whom he gave didn’t have money with which to pay him, but this young man rested assured that his reward comes from heaven and that he was laying his treasure up in heaven.

Giving things to people who need it and doing acts of kindness calls for the understanding of the “non-existence of money.” We do good deeds knowing that the blessings we receive from doing it is more powerful than the money we were supposed to receive for it.

Jesus tells us that by what mete we measure, the same shall be measured back unto us. The bible always warns that “divers (unfair) weights and divers measures” are an abomination to the Lord. This means that if we rob people, we invoke the anger of God, but if we give a fair or even over-topping amount, we invoke the blessings of God.

Jesus also cautioned us to do our good deeds in secret, and not in the streets sounding a trumpet, least we have no reward. Instead, do not let your right hand knows what your left hand does.
