Scientists say they’ve invented a pill that could make you live to 150 years. Humans seem to be pushing the boundaries of mortality everyday. But the qquestion is, would you really want to live forever on earth? Or even to 150 years? Would that make satisfying sense? Or should be trust the original design?

Let’s put the human lifespan and what it entails into perspective. By the time we are four years old, we feel as though we’ve lived several eternities, and the time to become twenty seems like a thousand eternities away. However, when we hit twenty, time speeds up. When we hit thirty, forty, fifty, it keeps speeding up. By the time we’re 70, we’re amazed at how fast it all played out.

Time didn’t speed up. It’s just that as we age, we remember proportionally less, and our brain records less consciousness while archiving most experiences into the subconscious. Our consciousness can only hold on to x amount of memories at any given time. Further, life becomes more repetitive as we age causing our brain to archive most experiences quickly. It would take 70 years to remember 70 years of memories. Our mind keeps highlights of our lives with the most impactful and useful moments as time markers. Everything else is filed away in the subconscious.

If we were to live to 150 years, it is unlikely to add any real joy or sense of accomplishment to our consciousness. We’ll forget most of what we experienced. At the end of it, we wouldn’t feel more “lived” than someone at 40. Instead of trying to live longer, we should focus on living more meaningful, God centered lives which serves humanity and nurtures the soul. We should strive to store our treasures up in heaven and heap up “good karma” by doing good deeds to our fellow humans.

Despite these facts, if living to 150 becomes the new norm, most people will go for it, and we’ll just have to “live with it.” But be brutally honest, would you want to live to 150 years on planet earth?
