The cover photo shows a woman staring at what I would describe as “nature’s television.” I don’t know whom to credit for this photo but I absolutely love it. It brings back memories of my own experiences with nature’s television. At first, when I looked at the picture, I wondered if the girl were sitting in front of a big screen TV. I had to look closer to see that she is sitting in a cabin in front of an open doorway…looking out into nature’s television. The beauty of that photo permeates my entire being. It reminds me of the times I used to stare out of my own window and relish the beauty of nature’s television.

Mankind has invented something that keep humans eyes fixated on a stationary object for hours. It’s called the television. When we are glued in front of the television, we become entranced by it. Our minds fill up with all kinds of emotions depending on the kind of content that is being played. Nowadays, many people are addicted. They can’t take their eyes off the television screen. Sometimes, we can’t wait to get home from work or school to turn on our favorite television show. Through an evolutionary process, smart phones and computers are being added to the mix.

But what happened back in the days when there was no television or computer devices? What was the human alternative? Perhaps it was nature’s television: glutting your eyes on the beauty of nature. And nature’s television is all around us. Nature, or nature’s God, has created magnificent sights that captivate our hearts and pervades our entire being. Unfortunately, due to proliferation of the man-made distractions, people take less time to stare and enjoy nature’s television.

I remember how, as a child, I use to climb out the back window of our house, sit on the zinc shed with cup of lemonade and some biscuits, and enjoy the scenic view in front of me. Fortunately, our home was in the last row heading towards the sea, and the view was mind-blowing. At other times, I would enjoy the view from my window.

Staring at this magnificent view, I wrote a poem. And although I lost the poem a long time ago, I’ll try to recompose it from memory here.

Outside my window I can see
Gigantic trees before the sea.
It makes me wish that I could fly:
Be a giant eagle in the sky.

I can hear so many things:
The rushing wind,
Birds on wings,
The rustling of the great tree leaves...
The steady rumble of the seas.

Below is another breathtaking scenery captured by Guyanese citizen Nekita Floris. What emotions sweep through your mind as you focus on the scene below? Can you feel the peace and tranquility of nature? Can you picture yourself in a canoe, perhaps with your favorite person, rowing away towards the sunset?

Here is another beautiful photo taken in Kato Village, Guyana, South America. Does this image soothe and bring peace to your mind?
