Venus – The Roman Goddess of Love

venus photoIn science, Venus is the second planet away from the sun. But did you know that this planet was named after the mythological goddess “Venus” in Roman storytelling? In Roman mythology, Venus is the goddess of love.

Here are some words that are supposedly derived from “Venus” the goddess of love in Roman mythology.

Venerate – Verb – to show great, love, respect and admiration for something or someone. To worship.

Veneration – Noun – the act of venerating something or someone.

Venereal – of or having to do with love – especially sexual love.

I’m sure you’ve heard of  the expression”venereal disease” which is another expression for “sexually transmitted disease.” Venereal disease refers to diseases which are transmitted through acts of love and intimacy.

Venus – goddess of love.

Venerate – to show great love and admiration for something or something.

Veneration – the act of venerating.

Venereal – having to do with love, especially sexual love.

Venereal diseases – sexually transmitted disease.
