Comprehension means understanding what you have read; or understanding what the writer is trying to express to you.

The key to comprehension is to have a good grasp of the English language: understand English words, phrases and expressions, as well as literary devices.

Indeed a good vocabulary will greatly aid your comprehension skills. Words are like keys which unlock the hidden meanings behind a work of poetry or prose.

The comprehension lessons which will be covered under this heading will aid any student of English to become a better, faster and more fluent reader.

They will also greatly aid the student of CXC English to master comprehension exercises and questions.

I will be discussing quite a few comprehension passages from the book “A Comprehensive English Course for CXC”, as well as other comprehension passages taken from other sources.

You will be carefully guided into understanding the meanings embedded into complex passages. Long sentences and vague meanings will be demystified and made absolutely clear.

Have fun reading these lessons on comprehension by Patrick Carpen.
