We live in a world where people boast of high offices. Some would like to boast that they attended and graduated from x, y or z university. Others would like to boast that they visited the White House. But today I walked through a modest door on a very small building on the hill in the remote village of St. Ignatius in Region 9, Guyana, South America.
At 9 AM, there were only three of us there. A few others would come later. But the bible reminds us that “where two or three are gathered in His name, there will Jesus be.” This small door on this simple building was the greatest door that anyone has ever had the privilege of walking through. It is the door to the house of God, as Jesus promised, “I will build my house against which the gates of hell shall not prevail.”
I had often thanked the pastor and other leaders of that church for keeping those doors open. We need to hold the faith. We never know when a precious soul would walk or run through those doors and be saved from the claws of death and the forces of darkenss. “The light shown into the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.”
The bible tells us that the name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run into it and are saved. The house of God is also a strong tower, our rock, and our fortress. Those who seek the face of God are saved there by His grace.
Today, there are many esteemed high places on earth: respectable offices which demand the best of the best only. But the church, the greatest building on earth, holds its doors open to all and sundry. Some people spend years in Universities and still cannot clear their debts, but there is never a case of one who genuinely praised God in the church who hasn’t received a just reward. The greatest universities teach psychology to its students. Yet this fails to cure depression. But there is not one who genuinely praises God in the church who doesn’t receive the joy of the Lord which surpasses all understanding.
The bible tells us that God has made the weak things of earth to confound the strong things of the earth, for the foolishness of God is greater than the wisdom of men. No matter how small or simple your church is; no matter what your earthly status may be; when you walk through those doors, you have walked through the greatest door on earth and received the greatest privilege available to mankind.
Many men wanted to become God; they are all dead. Jesus is the only God who became man; He is alive.
