Even the most devout Christians wrestle with doubt sometimes: Am I really following God’s truth or should I look into other religions? What’s funny is that many Christians venture away only to come around full circle back to Christianity.
Today as I was coming home with a taxi, a conversation with the driver reinforced the truth of the Bible. The taxi driver told me a story of how one of his friends was murdered decades ago. I started to pry: why? how? He said the youth was riddled with bullet when he was around 22 years old but he couldn’t understand why.
At that point, I started to share my idea of the sanctify of human life. Since a human life cannot be brought back by man, humans should try their best not to kill, especially not in cold blood, because it might very well be a very difficult sin to forgive.
The taxi driver agreed with me. But then he shared an aspect of his life that reinforced biblical truth. He said that he grew up in a bad neighborhood amongst people who murdered to get up in life. At a young age, these men flourished, but they all died untimely deaths – at the average age of 25, and when he returned from a job stint in the USA, they were all dead and buried – leaving their children fatherless.
At that point, I remembered David’s words in the Book of Psalms, “I have seen the wicked arising, and spreading himself like a green bay tree; but I returned and could not find him. I sought him, but he not.”
I shared this bible verse with the taxi driver and he was amazed that he was describing a biblical scenario.
Yes, good people sometimes die young too, but the general biblical truth holds up. This casual conservation with a taxi driver spoke to me. It highlighted once again the truth and power of the Word of God.
