Recently, there has been a “refugee crisis” around the world, and European countries have been feeling the greatest weight of migrants who flee war-torn Syria to find a better life.
My friend Lawrence Avery shared a news item on Facebook. It read: At Berlin Church, Muslim Refugees Converting in Droves. Lawrence adds his own caption to the post “they run from fire only to confront the devil”. Lawrence evidently does not believe in our Savior Jesus Christ.
I wrote in the comment box “Jesus Christ is Lord”. Lawrence replied, “Not for me”. I replied, “OK, my bother”.
But then, Lawrence further added, “I am not a Christian and I think it is the worst religion with the most hypocrites.”
This was my reply to Lawrence’s comment:
Lawrence Avery, I don’t doubt that. In fact, I’ve seen it firsthand. That’s because Jesus is the most loving and forgiving God ever. ANYONE can turn to him. Many other religions set up castes and some seek to draw in the greatest and best. Most of the people who are called Christians are people who only recently started to walk in the light of God’s love. Many of these people have tried all other avenues, which inevitably failed them. At the end of their rope, they turned to Christ. Many Christians are people who have run from Jesus all their lives and are now learning about His power and love. I am one such person, and I still have many of my worldly imperfections. That’s the rusty side of the coin. On the bright side, true Christians who truly understand the power and love of Jesus Christ have touched more hearts and lives than all other groups combined. We can all get there if we trust and obey, as the song goes, “one day at a time sweet Jesus”. Many hypocrites who go by the banner of Christianity trample on God’s mercies, God will judge them in due time. He knows and understands everything. Those people are tools of the devil; and we shouldn’t let them blind us from the Truth that is Jesus Christ.
Lawrence replied, “I have no reason to want to go to heaven because as far as I am concerned such a place does not exist materially. ..about eternal life…I ask the question “who wants to live forever”..one of my many beliefs is that I never met anyone who deserves a heaven…never met any angels…and heaven must be a very boring place if it really exists..heaven or hell is ones state of mind and spiritual evolution….”
I replied, “Lawrence Avery like I said, that’s a nice thought. But even if heaven were a state of mind, I believe that only Jesus can help us get there. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Besides, God’s Word exists to tell us how things are, not how we think it should be. Humans have all kinds of ideologies; but no amount of spiritual evolution can save us from the devil, who is like a roaring lion seeking who he may devour. I know because I’ve been there.”
