Facebook Pages: Limiting Visibility

spyglasses photoThis morning, I was posting a video on my Facebook Fan Page. It was a new year’s greeting video to bless the hearts of my fans and followers. But then, simultaneously, Facebook blessed my heart with a little tutorial. As I was posting the video, a little tip box flipped up that read “did you know that you can now manage the visibility of your posts?” I was a bit curious about this. I clicked to learn more.

A new window opened with an article from Facebook. It explained how, when I post something to my Facebook Page, I could limit who sees it. That is, I could limit the visibility of the post to people from a particular city.

Say for example, I wanted to post something relevant to people living in Boa Vista, but not relevant to people living in Georgetown, if that popped up in EVERYBODY’S news feed who had liked my Page, it might be somewhat irrelevant to some people. And sometimes (and this did happen to me) I may need to post an ad up that was relevant to one city, but I don’t want people of another city to see.

Now Facebook announced that all of this is possible. When I’m posting the article, video, link, etc, all I have to do is click the icon and start limiting visibility. I can select a particular city, for example. If people from other locations browse my page, they won’t see it. And the awesome part is, even if people share the post on their Facebook walls, it will still be visible only to people in the audience I’ve selected.

This can be especially useful when you have fans of different languages. Like say for example, you post something for your French fans, and you don’t want Portuguese or English fans to see it, all you have to do is limit the visibility to the French audience.

Now I can have Fans in multiple languages from ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Isn’t this awesome? Yes, Facebook has certainly blessed my heart with something wonderful for the new year!
