Guyana is on the Rise, and so is Guyana, South America.

A few decades ago, very little was known internationally about Guyana, and nobody seemed to care. And most of the little that was known about it was that it a small, run down, crime and disease-ridden country with a very low literacy rate from which most people were trying to run.

Not too long ago, most people in the western world didn’t know the difference between “Guyana” in South America and “Ghana” in Africa. As a matter of fact, around the year 2006, I was talking to some business correspondents from the USA via telephone. They asked me, “so 1 US dollar is equal to how many ‘gwana’ dollars?”

I said, “the word is not ‘gwana,’ it’s ‘guyana.’ ” But the mistake continued.

Even as late as 2016, during a conversation with some British volunteers in the Rupununi Savannahs of Guyana, they mentioned that they had never heard about Guyana prior to coming here, “even though they are now learning that Guyana is a former British colony.”

But fast foward to the year 2018 and all that is about to change. With vast treasures found beneath the soil, everyone seems to have a renewed interest in Guyana, and former emigrants are looking to remigrate.

More and more airline companies are announcing that they will start operating in Guyana, and even the president of Ghana came to see what “help” he could offer to Guyana.

Google is overloaded with keyword searches for “Guyana,” and “Guyana, South America.” And for me, that’s a new kind of oil – a new kind of wealth and my own way of capitalizing on Guyana’s oil wealth.

I first started the Facebook Page #guyanasouthamerica by posting a few pictures and articles here and there. For the first year, I had just a few hundred followers, and I ran the blog off patrickcarpen.com/guyana.

Now, I’ve registered a country specific domain name www.guyanasouthamerica.gy.

This morning, I’ve woken up to 50 new likes to my facebook page: Guyana South America, which has the keywords “guyana, south america” in the URL: facebook.com/guyanasouthamerica.

I plan to migrate all contents of patrickcarpen.com/guyana to guyanasouthamerica.gy and work towards my goal of making this website the number one destination for news, tourism, industry, technology, sports and much more for the country of Guyana.

And with the “keyword rich” domain name guyanasouthamerica.gy, I’m sure, with a little effort, I can cop the number one spot in Google for search term “guyana, south america.” As I mentioned, with new new-found oil-wealth, there’s going to be a lot of searches for “guyana, south america” in the near future. And for me, that’s new oil!
