Karasabai Village is an Amerindian Community in the North Rupununi Savannahs of Guyana. It is tucked away neatly under the shade of the mighty Pakaraima Mountains.
Karasabai Village is located about 200 kilometers North of the town of Lethem.
Sometime in December, 2017, I made a trip via motorcycle to Karasabai Village. To reach Karasabai Village from Lethem, you first drive up the road to Georgetown. After crossing two wooden bridges, you make a detour to Sante Fe. Then you turn left again and keep following the road. The road was not in the best of shape at the time I made the first trip there. There are lots of potholes and what the locals refer to as “scrubbing boards,” on the road. Also, lots of mud, bricks and sand which make for a rough and risky ride.
If you’re going by motorcycle from Lethem, make sure you have a sturdy bike, and know how to fix a flat tire! It’s best to travel with company.
The vehicle most recommended, at the time of this writing, for making a trip to Karasabai, is the 4-wheel drive.
Nevertheless, enjoy these beautiful pictures from along the trail to Karasabai Village, the village itself and neighboring communities.
