river photoSkeldon Village is a village in the county of Berbice in Region #6 in the country of Guyana. It has a population of approximately 3000 people most of whom are descendants of East Indian indentured laborers who came to work on the sugar plantations after the abolition of slavery.

Skeldon village has a nursery school, a primary school, a secondary school, a village council and several religious places of worship.

The people of Skeldon earn an income mainly from the prominent and long-standing Skeldon Sugar Factory – which however has been coming under controversy of recently.

Other economic activities include trade, skilled labor, buying and selling, fishing and farming. There are a few cottage manufacturing industries in the village of Skeldon.

Skeldon is bordered by Moleson Creek to the east, No. 79 Village to the west, the sugar cane fields to the south and the Corentyne River to the north. Skeldon is close to the neighboring country of Suriname.
