My first encounter with an “evangelist” from the Church of Christ was a bit shocking. I was never ministered to or approached before by a Church of Christ teacher.
However, during my stay at the Takutu Hotel in Lethem, Rupununi, during the years 2013-2016, I met a Church of Christ evangelist who was staying at the hotel during a mission trip.
There was a Church of Christ branch in the Rupununi, more particularly, in Culvert city, Lethem. That was just a few minutes walk from the Lethem Airport. This group of US missionaries had come to do some missionary work in Guyana, in the Rupununi.
We didn’t have time to talk much, but the preacher told me that the Church of Christ, essentially, has the sound doctrine by which members of the Church of Christ live, and that most, if not all, other Christians denominations, are in error. By extension, I read that he meant that other denominations were going to tell, and I later confirmed this belief with another elder from the church.
Needless to say, this was shocking to learn: the great division. As Jesus said, “A Kingdom divided cannot stand.”
So all those persons earnestly singing and worshipping God, paying their tithes, helping the poor etc, fron the Assemblies of God, and other denominations, are going to hell? Something just didn’t seem right.
But I remembered the words of the Church of Christ minister. He said to me, “on the day of judgement, if you follow the wrong church, you are going to have to account to God for allowing them to teach you the wrong thing.”
There are so many things wrong with that statement, but I certainly would not allow this hypocrite to teach me the wrong thing – so that’s one thing I wouldn’t have to account for on the day of Judgement.
