Dogs make beautiful pets!
The word “dog” is the word “god” spelled backward. And that would make you think that dog is the exact opposite of “god” in power and status!
There seems to be some truth to that notion when you think about it. Consider these expressions:
He is worshiped as a god.
He was treated like a dog.
They treated us like gods.
They treated us like dogs.
Wow! You’re like a god!
You dog!
Yes! The spelling of the word “dog” as the reverse of “god” seems to be a bit more than coincidence. The idea of the “dog” being opposite of “god” seems cemented by human culture and understanding.
In fact, there are several bible verses which look down on dogs. For example:
Do not give what is holy to the dogs.
Do not give the children’s bread to dogs.
On the flip side of the coin, dogs have been regarded as man’s best friend! In some circumstances, they are frowned upon, but in other settings, these loving, loyal, beautiful, huggable creatures dine at man’s table and sleep in his bed!
Yes, dogs are beautiful creatures when domesticated and cared for in the right way. But please let your love of dogs stop there, and do not let it transcend into veneration!

While I do believe that dogs are beautiful creatures and should be treated with love, as much as humanly possible, under the right circumstances, I do not believe that they should be venerated.
The devil has devised many traps to snare mankind, and one of them is causing them to break God’s first commandment: thou shalt have no other god before me.
Many people knowingly or unknowingly create deities for themselves which takes a place greater than that given to God.
Some of these people indulge in outright worship while others are not aware that they are “serving another god” with their actions and thoughts.
I once met a man who claimed to be a christian. However, the emphasis he placed on dogs in his every day life made it obvious that there was some sort of worship involved in his relationship with his dogs.
He even mentioned once that he can’t leave the country because if he did so, his dogs would die and he would be “cursed.”
While I do believe that every provision, love and care should be given to dogs as well as any domesticated animal, we must be careful that we are not “crossing the often thin line between good and evil.”
