The Sweet Smell of Success

sweet smell photoI remember seeing a website on the internet (where else?) which claims to teach people how to make and market their own line of perfume and perfume products. Whew! What a gigantic task! The website is called “The Sweet Smell of Success.” And here’s the link to that website by the way.

There’s a membership fee, of course, but I think it’s a one time fee.

I must admit that, when I think about this concept, it raises some serious eyebrows. I mean, seriously make and market your own line of perfume products??!!

What’s wrong with that idea? Well absolutely nothing, except: there are already so many famous brands of perfumes out there, all fighting each other fiercely for market share.

From my point of view, it would seem almost impossible to break into this market in today’s day and age. And further more, why even try? Of the hundreds of brand name perfumes out there, the few that make the top then lists are already saturating the market. Make and market your own perfume? Are you out of your mind? These were my initial thoughts.

But I may be wrong! After all, I don’t know it all, and after putting some serious thoughts into it, I realized that there may be merits in the concept.

Here is what I came up with:

– Before attempting such a project, be sure you’re passionate about it. I mean, not every one can make good perfume. Hell, not every one can smell good perfume, but if you’re one of those talented people, then go after your dreams.

Here are some tips for succeeding in a venture of this nature:

– Contact a famous person, possibly a celebrity and offer them the opportunity to sponsor your product, if they like. I mean – for example – Justin Beiber recently launched his own brand of perfumes, so why not a Selena Gomez brand, if it’s not out already?

That should bring you instant success.

Before launching your perfume, make sure you have a website up and running with contact forms, newsletter, autoresponder, shopping cart, new product announcement column, social sharing buttons, and all the good stuff.

Remember to print your website’s URL on the label of every bottle of perfume.

I myself have enjoyed my own sweet smell of success but by selling for an established company. I post a link to that story here later.

All that being said, here are some online resources that will help you in your endeavors to make and market your own line of perfume products.
