Some time back while in the village of Lethem, Rupununi Savanna, Guyana, I incidentally ran into my friend Ken, who happens to be the owner of Ken’s General Store in St. Ignatius Village, Rupununi Savannas, Guyana.
The words somehow leaped out of my mouth “when are you going to Boa Vista again?”
Ken normally goes every week or two to Boa Vista to purchase stocks for his store.
“Tomorrow morning,” he answered.
“What time?”
“Seven O Clock in the morning”
“And what time are you returning?”
“Early”.
I had been having an urge to go to Boa Vista to look into some businesses for quite some time, so I asked “can you take me with you”?
“Sure, Ill pick you up at seven”.
On his word, Ken picked me up at the time specified. The ride from Lethem to Boa Vista is approximately 100 km. When we arrived in the city of Boa Vista, the taxi pulled up at a small cafe for “breakfast”.
After that we went about our business. The next stop was Friotrans Wholesale Depot in Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil.
I was amazed at the number of Guyanese I saw at this wholesale store purchasing dry goods and groceries for their stores in Lethem. This commercial center turns out to be the number one place both Brazilians and Guyanese go to get Brazilian items at wholesale prices.
So, if I ever decide to open a store or supermarket in Lethem or its proximity, I now know where to go for Brazilian goods.
