Something Said “Duck”

Sometime in the month of October, 2024, I was standing at the back of a pickup. I was facing backward – the opposite direction in which the pickup was going. This was dangerous. At the time, I was posed this way to film the homecoming motorcade of the newly crowned Miss Indigenous Heritage Queen 2024. I was getting a good shot at it from the back of the pickup. In my mind, there was little danger in backing the traffic. To the best of my knowledge, there were no low hanging branches from trees, no wires, etc. But in backing the direction of the moving vehicle, I was, knowingly or unknowingly, taking a huge risk.

As the pickup hit the bridge that connected St. Ignatius Village to Lethem, something said, “duck.” It was an inaudible voice that spoke to my mind. I ducked and saved my life. There was an iron bar at the top of the bridge that would have connected directly to my head had I not heeded this silent voice that said, “duck.”

But what was this voice? Was it my subconscious mind that knows that at iron bar was above the bridge even while my conscious mind had forgotten? Was it the voice of God Who is always watching over me? Was it my guardian angel as some would say?

I believe it was God or the angel of God, as it is written in the Bible, “He shall give His angel charge over thee, lest thou dash thy foot against a rock.”

God saved me that day. Instead of living the trauma of a near death experience, my heart is filled with gratitude for God’s ever-present divine protection which is always with me. For me, this is yet another message from heaven, a reminder from God, that He is with me, that He loves me, and that He is watching over me. That is such a beautiful feeling.
