Campo Verde

In July of the year 2013, I had the honor, the priviledge and the great pleasure of visiting the beautiful city of Campo Verde, in Mato Grosso, Brazil.

At the time, I was staying with a good friend, George Ribeiro, in the city of Rondonopolis. A young woman by the name of Silvana was looking for an English teacher for her newly opened Wizard School and she somehow found me!

I agreed to go with her and we set off one morning in her parents’ car. I must admit that saying goodbye to George, his parents and their beautiful farm was a sad part of the picture. But they were so happy to hear about my new adventure.

I was told that Campo Verde was a “well developed” city, and that was no mistaken idea! Even the poorest people in this city lived “middle class” lives. What struck me most about this city were the beautiful glass fences on many of the homes. Most of the houses reflected beauty, style, comfort, class and yes, riches. Indeed, this is a rich city. The people were warm and friendly and the coffee was, well, Brazilian!

When I told Ms. Desiree Hamilton in Guyana about the glass fences in Campo Verde, she was stunned. How can someone make their fences of glass? She really wanted to see pictures. Sadly I did not take any pictures, but I do plan to return there soon. And then, I’ll take pictures.

But the glass fences are just the start of the whole story. Campo Verde has many beautiful parks, playgrounds, swimming pools and recreational facilities. The people there are mostly protestant Christians and they live as though they are one big family.

If you want to see and learn more about one of the most beautiful cities in Brazil, do visit Campo Verde, in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil!
