I would like to tell you a truly inspiring story which happened during a time when I was facing a financial crisis. I was at the point of bankruptcy after one of my businesses was targeted by corrupt government officials in Guyana. I had to wrestle with all my might and struggle to make ends meet. It was at that time that I realized the importance of shock-proofing oneself through consistent savings, but that’s not the point of this article.
In mid-2024, when I was almost submerged in debts and bills, I visited an office in Boa Vista, Brazil, to renegotiate some overdue bills. I collected a total of four bills – two due the same month and two the next. I had enough money to pay the two due that month, but for the other two, bigger ones, I had to wait on some cash to come in.
After paying the first two, I discarded them. Then I secured the two bigger bills and returned to Guyana. A few weeks later, some money came through and I figured I had enough to pay the two bigger bills. I started searching for them, but couldn’t find them. I upturned every corner and searched in every nook and cranny, but the bills were nowhere to be found.
I returned to the office in Boa Vista and asked the attendant there to kindly reprint the two bills because I had lost them. She checked the system and told me that those two bills were already paid.
Did God sent His angels to get those bills, pay them, and discard them while I was not looking? Did I pay those bills and somehow forgot about it? To the best of my knowledge, I don’t remember paying those bills.
Whatever the case may be, I’m sure it was God who paid the bills. This, in my understanding, was God’s way of talking to me and telling me that He is walking right beside me and watching over me even through my darkest hour and most menacing storm.
Experiences like these draw us close to God. They are the silver linen in the dark cloud and much more than that. They serve as a heavenly reminder that “God will never leave us nor forsake us.” Experiences like these, which prove God’s presence in our lives, make believers thankful for difficult times as much as good times!
This is a story of how God paid the earthly bills for one man who trusted Him, and it is a timid reflection of the fact that God also paid the heavenly bill for all who put their trust in Him, through the blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.
