Comparing the Romance Languages: Good Afternoon

As I mentioned before, the Romance languages are sister languages which are all derived from the language of Ancient Rome: Latin.

Even though they are similar, they are still very different, and speakers of one can only communicate to a limited extent with another.

Let’s see exactly how similar and different they are! In this lesson, we will have fun comparing the greeting “good afternoon” in the four Romance Languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and French.

Portuguese: Boa tarde

Spanish: Buenas tardes

Italian: Buon pomeriggio

French: bonne après-midi

As you can see, similar but not the same!
