Have you ever wondered why so many students suck at English? It’s because English sucks; and when something sucks, you suck back at it; and that’s the plain, simple reason why so many students suck at English. But does English suck? Isn’t the English language one of the world‘s most beautiful and powerful languages?

Absolutely. So why does it still suck? It’s because of the lousy job that the textbooks out there do at communicating the concepts of the English language. The English textbooks leave too much to be desired. Often, the concepts are so obscure, you would see better through a thick fog than the through the idea being presented to you.

Many books on the English language need a serious rewriting. As a teacher of English, I’ve come across English textbooks that contain blatant errors, and many that do not deliver the concept properly. I’ll be discussing some of these here, and for starters, let’s look at:

  1. The Trouble With Compound and Complex Sentences.
  2. Theme in Literature: What Really is it?
