I Don’t Waste Time in the Classroom

When I was teaching English in Brazil, I would really smoke that chalkboard. That is, I would pack the full punch into a one hour period. My students knew, and the results spoke for themselves that “I don’t play in the classroom.”

However, now that I’m a student all over again – studying for the CELPE/BRAS (Portuguese Proficiency) exams, I’d like to say that “I don’t waste time in the classroom.

But that statement could have two possible meanings: I don’t waste time by attending classes or “when I’m in the classroom, I really focus.”

In this case, it is the former, not the latter. I chose to sign up for the CELPE exams and skip most, if not all, of the classes leading up to the exams. So what will I do instead? Teach myself. Yea, I’m very much a self starter as I am a self learner.

I love to craft my very own learning solution and squeeze every bit of juice out of those books.

And this present experience made me remember when I was studying “all by myself” for my CXC English exams. While the rest of my class went to schoool, I stayed home and studied the entire year. And yes, I aced it.

Don’t get me wrong, school is fun, and I did have some great techers, and sometimes, I do enjoy the classroom, but ever so often, like the greatest self-taught figures in history (Abraham Lincoln?), “I don’t waste time in the classroom” because, (most of the time) “it’s too slow for me.”
