For writers, educators, and other content creators, AI is a game changer. A good metaphor for AI would be what oil did for Dubai. Before oil discovery and subsequent exportation, Dubai was a modest, barren, desert. After only a few decades, oil transformed Dubai to the world’s most remarkable, amazing, and richest city. We can say then that Artificial Intelligence is the oil of writers, educators, and content creators.
But we must remember that many other places on earth had oil, and in greater volume, and didn’t rise to such heights of success. Some of them got absolutely nowhere! The difference is that the leaders of the United Arab Emirates knew how to manage an oil economy and how to put the oil revenues to good, productive use. In the same way, your knowledge of AI and how to use it to your best advantage makes all the difference of whether it will be just another tool lying under your nose or if it will transform your life for the better.
That is the reason this course was created: to equip you with as much knowledge of AI tools and how to use them to your best advantage to achieve great things in content creation and make a lot of money.
How AI Should Not be Used
I’ve seen advertisements for products that claim to create entire books from cover to cover, ready to market, with only a few commands. I say this is absolute nonsense. Such products will only fill the world with low quality or useless material. AI may be a writer’s best friend, but it is no substitute for a professional, passionate writer, and it can never in a million years replace ardent writers. What it can do is aid them greatly. You can use AI to find solutions to stumbling blocks along the way, solve problems, find answers, and even write parts of your book. You can use AI to create great graphics and videos from scratch. But all written material generated by AI must be thoroughly reviewed by writers and editors before even attempting to market a book or other literary product.
This is a general course in which I share my knowledge of using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini (formerly Google Bard) and other AI tools to enhance creative content.
Using Descriptive Prompts to Create Fantastic Images with Artificial Intelligence
Understanding how to write great prompts can help you to create wonderful images only limited to your imagination. Take a look at the image below.
Gemini describes the image above as follows:
The image appears to be a surreal depiction of a waterfall cascading from a landmass shaped like South America. The waterfall, reminiscent of Kaieteur Falls, is the focal point of the image, with its powerful flow creating a dramatic contrast against the lush green landscape. The landmass itself is surrounded by a mist or cloud, adding to the mystical atmosphere. The overall composition is striking and thought-provoking, suggesting a connection between the natural world and the shape of continents.
Now take a look at the image below:
The following prompt, used in Gemini, was used to create the image above:
Draw an image, with the exact shape of the one above, which appears to be a surreal depiction of a the mythical city of El Dorado on a landmass shaped like the country of Guyana. The golden city, reminiscent of El Dorado, is the focal point of the image, with streets of gold and golden dust creating a dramatic contrast against the lush green landscape. The landmass itself is surrounded by a mist or cloud, adding to the mystical atmosphere. The overall composition is striking and thought-provoking, suggesting a connection between the natural world and the shape of Guyana.
Gemini returned the image above with the words: Sure, here is an image of the mythical city of El Dorado on a landmass shaped like the country of Guyana.
Now take a look at this amazing image!
The following prompt was used in Gemini to create the image above.
Draw an image, with the exact shape of the map of Guyana, which appears to be a surreal depiction on a landmass shaped like the country of Guyana. Across the ten regions are embedded fresh fruits, vegetables, and culinary dishes. The landmass itself is surrounded by a mist or cloud, adding to the mystical atmosphere. The overall composition is striking and thought-provoking, suggesting a connection between foods and the shape of Guyana.
Using Artificial Intelligence to Create Amazing Poems
Did you know that AI tools have the ability to create powerful, amazing poems? That’s correct. A word of caution: you should read the poem carefully and substitute a few undesirable words or phrases where necessary. Below are some example of poems I’ve created with ChatGPT (the free version). And yes! You can claim authorship of the poem you created using AI! After all, you wrote the prompt!
Remembering Meshach Pierre
I gave ChatGPT the following prompt:
Write a poem about a biologist who committed suicide after suffering from depression and other mental health issues.
The Result:
In the quiet dawn, where shadows play,
A mind once vibrant now fades away.
With a heart that pulsed for life’s design,
You sought the secrets where nature entwines.
You danced with cells, unraveled the thread,
Explored the world where few dared to tread.
Yet beneath the brilliance, a struggle ran deep,
A silent battle, a sorrow to keep.
The weight of the world, a heavy shroud,
In moments of stillness, you felt so loud.
Yet in your pursuit of the microscopic truth,
You searched for solace, you searched for youth.
In the lab’s soft glow, you found your grace,
But outside those walls, a darker place.
Though you fought with courage, and dreams to fulfill,
The shadows grew deeper, the light grew still.
We gather today, with hearts heavy, worn,
To honor your life and your absence mourn.
Your legacy blooms in the minds you inspired,
In every discovery, your spirit conspired.
So here’s to the journeys you bravely embraced,
The wonders of life that you meticulously traced.
Though you’ve left us too soon, your light will remain,
In the whispers of nature, through joy and through pain.
The second line of the fifth stanza, created by ChatGPT, originally read as follows: To honor a life now forlorn. The word forlorn means "hopeless, pitifully sad, abandoned" etc. Out of respect for the family and friends of the deceased, such a statement might be poignant and inappropriate. That is why it is important for a human mind to review all poems created by AI carefully.
Guyana’s Journey
AI Tool: Chatgpt
Prompt: Write a poem about the country of Guyana talking about European exploration, slavery, indentured labor, independence, oil discovery, and the hope for a brighter future.
Result:
Beneath the sky where the rivers flow,
Where emerald forests and savannahs grow,
The land of many waters once stood still,
As European sails appeared on the hill.
They came in search of gold and trade,
But left behind a darker shade.
Chains were forged, and fields were sown,
As slaves were stolen from lands unknown.
The sugarcane danced in the wind’s fierce song,
As men and women endured the throngs.
From Africa’s shores, they were brought in pain,
To toil in the heat, shackled by chains.
But as the world shifted, the chains broke,
Yet new burdens fell with an iron yoke.
Indentured labor came to replace,
From India, China, they filled the space.
In the heat of the fields, they, too, would fight,
For freedom, for justice, for the light.
Centuries passed, and the winds of change,
Brought hope anew to this land so strange.
Independence dawned in ’66,
With courage found, Guyana stood amidst
The struggle for self, for truth, for voice,
A nation free to make its choice.
And now beneath the same skies so vast,
Where rivers and forests still hold fast,
The black gold flows from the ocean floor,
A new wealth whispers, promises more.
With oil discovered, hopes arise,
Yet caution lingers in many eyes.
For though riches may come from the deep blue sea,
The heart of this land must stay wild and free.
Guyana’s story, woven with pain,
With triumph, endurance, and torrential rain.
But from her soil and seas, the future gleams,
A land reborn with endless dreams.
May the future be bright, the people strong,
May justice and equity guide the song.
For Guyana’s heart beats fierce and true,
A beacon of hope where the skies are blue.
What a beautiful poem created by artificial intelligence! However, I made some revisions to the poem before publishing it as follows:
- The word “darker” in line 2 of the second stanza was changed from “darker” to “different.” That is my intention with this poem is not to offend our European counterparts, who, despite their error of slavery, played a crucial role in Guyana’s development and set the stage for progress and prosperity.
- The word “stolen” in line 4 of stanza 2 was changed to “brought” for the same reason described above.
- The last two lines of stanza 3 were altered as follows:
Before:
From Africa’s shores, they were brought in pain,
To toil in the heat, shackled by chains.
After:
From Africa’s shores, they were brought in chains,
To toil in the heat and bear the strain.
The reason is that they did not work while in chains.
4. In the second line of stanza 5, the word "freedom" was changed to "upliftment." That is because indentured servants were not in bondage so they needed not fight for freedom.
5. The 9th stanza was altered as follows:
Before:
Guyana's story, woven with pain,
With triumph, endurance, and torrential rain.
But from her soil and seas, the future gleams,
A land reborn with endless dreams.
After:
Guyana's story was woven through joy and pain,
Enriched by triumph, endurance, and torrential rain.
And from her soil and seas, the future gleams,
A land reborn with endless dreams.
The reason is that saying that Guyana's story was woven "with pain" is a bit too pessimistic.
As you can see from this case study, ChatGPT can greatly aid writers, but should never be used as a substitute for a professional writer.
After ChatGPT creates a poem for you, you can ask it to generate an image to represent the poem. For example, after ChatGPT wrote this poem for me, I typed: “Draw an image to represent the poem.” ChatGPT then generated the following image:
Guyana’s Tapestry
Tool: ChatGPT
Prompt: Write a poem about the beauty and diversity of the country of Guyana created by its six races: Europeans, Portuguese, East Indians, Africans, Indigenous, and Chinese. List contributions of each one.
Result:
In Guyana’s land, where rivers wind,
A tapestry of races, hearts entwined.
Six peoples weave a vibrant song,
Each thread unique, yet all belong.
The Europeans, bold, first paved the way,
Brought tools of trade, and laws to stay.
They built the towns, the roads we tread,
And in their wake, new paths were led.
The Portuguese, from distant shore,
Brought commerce, culture, and much more.
With trades and shops, they did refine,
The spice of life, like grapes to wine.
From India’s soil, the East Indians came,
With fields of rice and sugarcane.
They tilled the earth with hands so strong,
And shared their faith, a culture long.
The Africans, in chains once brought,
But freedom’s flame their spirits sought.
Resilience in their roots so deep,
Their drums of strength still make us weep.
The Indigenous, the land’s first kin,
Their knowledge flows like rivers’ spin.
From forests thick and mountains high,
They guard the earth, the open sky.
The Chinese, with skill and trade,
Built markets bright, new futures laid.
They gave us foods and arts so fair,
Their quiet strength is everywhere.
Together here, through sun and rain,
We stand as one, despite the pain.
For in each race, in every face,
Is woven Guyana’s boundless grace.
A land of six, yet one in heart,
Each playing a vital part.
In unity, our future lies,
Beneath Guyana’s endless skies.
Using Artificial Intelligence to Improve Vocabulary and Diction
Sometimes, as writers, we have difficulty finding the correct word to express the idea we have in mind. In some cases, the use of the thesaurus, but there are some instances that require more power. And that’s where AI comes in as the glorious savior. Below is an example. I typed the following into ChatGPT:
In the sentence, "the man drew his gun but put it back in its position when he saw that danger was passed." Give me a more technical word or expression for "put back."
ChatGPT’s response:
A more technical expression for "put back" in this context could be "reholstered."
So, the revised sentence would be:
"The man drew his gun but reholstered it when he saw that danger was passed."
Isn’t that amazing!
