Poetry: An Introduction

Throughout the centuries, humans have struggled to define the term “poetry” with no clear success.

From “the rhythm of the heart’s emotions” to the “magic of words”, the world seems divided on what really poetry is.

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines poetry as follows:

a) the writings of a poet : poems

b) something that is very beautiful or graceful

Personally, I’d like to think that poetry is a sign that men can do magic. It is this magic of words, intricately and beautifully woven into a pattern that rivals the world’s most beautiful scenery that holds the reader’s attention down to the last word; and with the release comes a sigh of wonder, awe and inspiration.

Poets see things in a very “unique” way and tell seemingly plain events in a “queer” manner: a manner that breathes life into otherwise dead ideas.

I first started writing poetry when I was studying for CXC English, and I’d like to share some of my poems with you. Keep reading to learn more.
