"liberty

I decided to write this article after seeing so many news stories of Washington’s recently developing attitude to immigrants and refugees and after watching the following video.

The world needs a new America. Not a renewed America; a new America: a new land which stands for the principles that the United States once represented.

We need a new “land of the free, home of the brave.” The founding fathers must be turning in their graves because the United States is turning into the very thing they fought so vehemently against.

The statue of liberty is weeping bloody tears, and the world is crying out for a new America: a land where leaders are selected not because of financial power or noble birth, but because of genuine ability to rule. Who will answer the call? Which leaders and which nation?

The world is crying out for a new land:

A new land which takes renegades and make them into family men.

A land which takes the homeless and make them into homeowners.

A land which takes dunces and turns them into geniuses.

A land which takes takes refugees and turn them into citizens.

A land which takes wastrels and turn them into businessmen.

A new land which calls out:

“Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she

With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
