Guyana is a melting pot of races and cultures. The country is made of almost all ethnic groups in the world, but how did it all begin?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first people to have arrived in Guyana are the Amerindians. The Amerindians came to Guyana via the Bering Strait &#8211; an ice passage connecting the continent of Asia to the continent of South America. The Amerindians were hunters and came in search of food and the ice passage melted after their arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the Amerindians, Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, discovered South America. This led to the Europeans&#8217; occupation and colonization of Guyana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Europeans brought slaves from Africa and later indentured laborers from India, China and Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consequently, Guyana is composed essentially of the following six ethnic groups: East Indians, Africans, Chinese, Portuguese, Europeans and Amerindians. There is also a seventh &#8220;mixed race&#8221; population in Guyana. <em>Note<\/em>: although Portugal is also in Europe, the Portuguese are listed as a separate race due to their distinct features and customs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Government of Guyana<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guyana was ruled by the French, Dutch and Finally the British. Guyana gained independence from Great Britain in the year 1966. The major political parties in Guyana are the People&#8217;s Progressive Party\/Civic (PPP\/C) and the People&#8217;s National Congress\/Reform (PNC\/R). The current president of Guyana is David A. Granger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guyanese History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coming Soon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guyanese Culture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guyanese celebrate Christmas as a Christian Tradition. They also celebrate Phagwah and Diwali as a Hindu Tradition.
