\"flagFlag raising ceremony is held at the break of Independence Day – just after midnight of May 25th each year – to usher in the celebration of Independence Day in Guyana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Independence Day is observed across Guyana to remember Guyana’s independence from the British Crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May, 26, 1966, Guyana became an independent nation and changed its name from “British Guiana” to “Guyana.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flag raising ceremony to mark Guyana’s independence is held at various marked locations across the country at the dawn of Independence Day – May 26 each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the flag raising ceremony, the British Flag, Union Jack, is lowered and the Guyanese flag, the Golden Arrow Head, is hoisted in a symbolic show of Guyana’s independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But whether the winning of independence is good or bad thing is a matter of personal taste and debate. I will be discussing this subject in some of my commentaries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
