You’ve probably heard the saying, “no matter where you roam, there is no place like home,”\u00a0and you’ve probably wondered why that is, or what it means.<\/p>\nYou’ve probably heard the saying, “no matter where you roam, there is no place like home,”\u00a0and you’ve probably wondered why that is, or what it means.<\/p>\n
The world is a big and beautiful place with lots to see and do. And chances are, your hometown\u00a0might not exactly be the most beautiful place in the world – no offence.<\/p>\n
So then why do so many people find it so hard to leave their hometown and settle in another part of the world?<\/p>\n
A friend and I were chatting some time back and he told me, “no matter where you go, you’ll come back right here, to Guyana, because this is home.”<\/p>\n
He told me of his attempts start a new life in Trinidad which simply didn’t work out. Then he added, “no matter where you roam, there’s no place like home.”<\/p>\n
Surely, that’s an age-old saying, and some sayings get passed down from generation to generation simply because they are true.<\/p>\n
And yes, while it is true that people do migrate all the time, and settle in new homelands almost every day, the saying “there is no place like home,” sure holds a lot of water.<\/p>\n
To every rule, there are exceptions, but for the average human being out there, migration and settling in a foreign land is a physical and emotional task. But why exactly is this?<\/p>\n
I’ll lay some of the factors down for you here.<\/p>\n
The strongest is: emotional ties. I wrote in a previous article about the dangers of emotional chains. Emotional chains are chains which keep people from progressing in life because they are held emotionally by something. But in this case, I won’t use the word “chains,” but “ties.”<\/p>\n
Emotions are formed everyday. We love our parents, children, friends and spouses. These feelings breed emotions that linger almost for an eternity. Sometimes, it’s hard to part company with those we love.<\/p>\n
Climate: If you grew up and spent most of your life in a particular place, you’re adapted to so many things around you: the weather, the sunshine or lack of it. When God created the earth, he made it just perfect. The solar system was designed to be perfect. Just a little further from the sun and we’d all freeze to death. Just a bit closer and we would all melt. In the same way, a person would adapt to the climate which makes them “just perfect” to that comfort zone. Moving to a hotter or colder region of the earth would give the person a jolt which would take some getting used to.<\/p>\n
Knowledge. If you’ve lived long enough in a particular area, you’ve garnered the knowledge and skills to survive, thrive or make a living there.<\/p>\n
Housing. You’ve most likely have your own habitation, no matter how humble, which you don’t have to pay rent for.<\/p>\n
Growing trends. In your own hometown, you know what’s hot and what’s not. You know what will be the next big trend. You’re simply more equipped to develop the place and create wealth at the same time.<\/p>\n
And finally, sentimental attachment: you love everything from the sunshine to the flowers and the water that flows from the creek.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
